The Creek is my favourite venue in the country, it is as you say brutal but they give you a chance & if you get them they give it back tenfold! Unlike a lot of the northern venues who hear a cockney accent and just turn off.

I think they give you a chance, but when I was going there 20 odd years ago (not performing just to be clear), you had to be funny really, really quickly or you just got shouted/heckled/booed off.

Yeah, not quite as harsh now but still got be on it! Malcolm Hardee used to compère it back in the time you're talking about and would famously introduce acts as, never seen this guy, probably gonna be shit, but give it up for...

John - yep, that sounds spot on, most of the comperes had absolutely no sympathy whatsoever with the acts. The Comedy Store it wasn't.
